>> Thanks to Jemma for the blip on Surf Station yesterday.

>> Girl Skateboard's "Yeah Right" premiere is set. April 17th at a really swanky location in Beverly Hills. 1,000 seat auditorium!

03/26/03

>> Here's a true story from Carl Sanger at Crailtap :

About a year ago an old friend came to visit me here at Crailtap HQ. An old skater friend from at least 10 or 12 years back. A female skater friend.

Come on now... it wasn't like that. This girl could skate and skate well. And this was back in the day before Villa Villa Cola zine or all the other websites devoted to girls that skate. Nobody had her back -- except for the guys she skated with. With us she always got props.

Anyhow, she stopped skating after getting hit by a car and breaking her femur. Then, eventually, she became a mom and her priorities changed. Shut up, she's allowed to do as she pleases.

So she comes by the office with her beautiful little girl who's still in diapers. We talked about the old days until her girl got impatient with the adult banter. Later that same day I found a Raisinet on my floor, I picked it up cursing my fellow Crail staffers for eating snacks in my cubicle, then, I realized it wasn't a Raisinet after all, but a baby turd. Oh... shit.

People, please, please, remember this when you become a parent ; Keep the diapers tight when you visit us at Crail

>> FOB, Kevin Wilkins has supplied this list of quotes. Thank you, Kevin.

03/25/03

>> Uh-huh.

03/24/03

>> www.trustzabo.com has added Bend's Hot War Links to their Link Checker. Thanks go to Peter at Conform. Here is the important thing to remember about issues before you make up your mind one way or the other : be well-informed. Read as much as possible from as many points of view as possible. Then, do the right thing.

03/21/03

>> Nothing to say so far today. Check the Hot War Links for a bunch of new ones. Thanks to everyone for submitting. Stay strong.

03/20/03

>> Quien es mas macho?

>> Thanks go out to Edith Abeyta and Phil Pinto for the last couple of Hot War Links.

03/19/03

>> "The War," directed and produced by George W. Bush, debuted live on every television channel at about 7pm PST tonight -- PRIMETIME! We'll have to wait until tomorrow for the ratings to come in. Apparently "The War" of 1991 was just a pilot.

03/19/03

>> Turns out the '89 Toyota Camry is the most stolen car in the US. Hmmm.

>> Is it just me of does "The War" seem as though it's being marketed like a reality TV show? Series debut in 24 hours!

>> Mark Lewman does NOT have a t-shirt OR a website. But he does have limitless slogans. Cart before the horse, Lew? Come on, man, get that html going on...

>> The very talented Eric White has been busy.

03/18/03

>> If you don't read Harper's Magazine already, I suggest you at least try to pick up the current issue, April 03... there is a brilliant essay in there by the magazine's editor, Lewis H. Lapham, entitled "Cause For Dissent, Ten Questions for the Bush Regime." Harper's doesn't have much of a web presence, which is a shame, but I'm hoping they will post this essay soon. If they do, Bend will let you know... this is required reading.

>> Michael Leon has updated the Commonwealth Stacks site. Always good... check it out.

>> Shit. Turns out Tony Larson's Luxuro doesn't have a t-shirt either, so I've updated the slogan again :

(insert your site name here) : One of Very Few Sites Without a T-Shirt!

03/17/03

>> More Hot War Links. This new one came from Tucker Nichols...
"This is a blog from a freelance war reporter,
Kevin Sites, currently working for CNN. His blogs are pretty sobering accounts from the front line. My hope is that independent reports like his will mitigate the extraordinary control the US has over media reports in this conflict.

>> Tofer show at Zone 9 Art in LA. Check it :

March 22nd from 8 to 11pm w/ DJ Pigneguy. call them at 213/622/2410 for more info.

>> My sincerest apologies to Don Pendleton at Elephont. When I unvieled the new BEND PRESS Motto last week : The Only Site Without a T-Shirt! I did not realize that DP hadn't issued a tee for Elephont either. Don, I'm so sorry, my friend, the motto has now been modified to accommodate Elephont as well...

BEND PRESS : One of Only Two Sites Without a T-Shirt!

or

ELEPHONT : One of Only Two Sites Without a T-Shirt!

03/15/03

>> Hot War Links adding on fast. Lots of opinions.

03/14/03

>> Fecal Face has a really cool thing going -- if you like art. Their monthly artshow calendar for San Francisco and vacinity. Check it.

>> I just came up with this slogan for Bend:

BEND PRESS : The Only Site Without a T-Shirt!

03/14/03

>> I dreamed last night that Girl hired a production manager for the art depatment freeing me up to draw all the time. Really, I really had that dream.

>> Camp Fig is having their Heavy Metal show tonight in Austin. It's happening in the midst of South by Southwest and should be great fun. Wear your metal gear. Michael Sieben is the man behind this thing... sorry for not getting you an album cover, Michael (see dream stated above).

>> Heard him speak on NPR last night. Couldn't leave my car until he was finished. Yanier "Blak" Moore. His first novel, "Triple Take," is now available from Villard Books.

>> How cool does this look?

>> From Lewman... Headline of the Year :

U.S. MARINES ENLIST PIGEONS TO BATTLE IRAQI GAS

03/13/03

>> New portal on Bend : HOT WAR LINKS!! Thanks to Lewman and Watt for the first three. Send in your link contributions, people... we don't want to be left behind in all this war/no-war fervor!

03/12/03

>> Who remembers H-Street's Dan Peterka? I met him yesterday. This is one of the things he's up to in the '03: Project Therapy.

>> Huh?

03/11/03

>> Tuesday. Damn, it feels like Friday already. Anyhow...

>> Sold two nicknames in the last two days. One is from the list and one is Bend Given.

>> I just got handed an Upper Playground catalog. Substancial little thing. Lots of nice design work from good designers/illustrators/artists on tees, hats, beanies and SHOES. Yup, the FIFTY24SF canvas shoes are in there... designs by David Choe, Rich Jacobs, Sam Flores and, ah, me. They look good. Contact the SF based Upper Playground for a copy of the catalog. Big thanks to the man up there, Matt Riveli.

03/10/03

>> Monday. Still shaking off a head cold.

>> Conform, one of our favorite sites, has a new, nice looking pelvis poster for sale designed by Pete Karpick, the man behind Conform's design and also the infamous trustzabo.com (among many others). Oh, and don't skip Conform's new flash intro... genius.

>> Bend Nicknames have been updates with 11 new ones to choose from. These make ideal wedding presents... each nickname comes with a frameable certificate signed and dated by Bend. Not kidding.

03/07/03

>> All right then, I'm not the only one who feels USA Today's "Ten Hardest Things To Do In Sports" were pretty much, ah, OFF. I've gotten quite a few email from Benders and one, Gfro, sent me this quote from the incomparable Lance Armstrong himself (not too sure of the source yet):

""Er, um, uh... are they serious? There's simply no way to compare short events like that -- or even running a marathon -- to a 3 week, 2500 mile, race. No way... "

Here're the responses USA Today printed. Some are pretty funny, Softball? Still no mention of MX or skateboarding. After thinking about it a bit, I'm realizing that's probably a good thing.

>> Enough of that crap already. Check Randy Laybourne's Diurnal... this kid is good. There's a great subliminal meloncholia mixed with subtle sarcasm happening thoughout much of his work... hard emotions to capture.

03/05/03

>> Jeremy Fish considers Dr. Seuss a hero, so he was pretty stoked with yesterday's link to the Theodore Geisel advertising illustrations. Turns out he just completed a bust of the man. Check it out. I have a feeling Seuss would've liked Jeremy's work.

>> Getting bored with all the motorcycle references? Today's Current Destination to Honda Monkey is different. The Casio version of the Beatle's "...Me and My Monkey" makes it worth the trip over there. Amazing.

03/04/03

>> Usa Today just finished up this list of the "Ten Hardest Things To Do In Sports." I held on until the end of the damned thing, just KNOWING that skateboarding or motocross would be on there in the top three. Nope. Even the body and soul breaking Tour De France comes in at #8 behind "Returning a Serve" (that's tennis) and "Hitting a Long Straight Tee Shot" (GOLF!). No table tennis either -- sorry Mueller.

I sent this letter. In retrospect, I am a dork and I have no idea why I bothered. I'm not even sure why I'm giving this "information" out in this little scrolling column buried on the big WWW. Hmmm. Not too sure why I even get out of bed in the morning.

That is a discussion for another day. For now, here is a picture my friend,
Lori Damiano, sent me of her and her father.

OK, I feel a little better (thanks, Lori). Go outside.

>> Art Dump member goes down. Contrary to popular belief, I'm not the only dumper to ride dirt bikes. This past weekend the Dump production wizard, Jeremy Carnahan went down hard after overshooting a step-up jump and broke his arm on impact. His left arm, "So I'll still be able to work, just a little slower, maybe." Here's to a quick recovery, Jeremy.
Me? I didn't crash this weekend, though little E did -- endoed right into a huge gopher hole in 2nd (he's fine, just fine). Got it on video... hi-8 video -- I'm in the stone age. If I had digital, you'd be watching it stream right now.

>> In other Jeremy news, Jeremy Fish has his website up and running again. Silly Pink Bunnies.

>> Can't recall if I ever mentioned this piece in Nickelodeon Magazine (pulp version of the cable kids' network). My son was stoked. SK8er chick, Avril Levigne wa on the cover.
