02/28/03

>> The Kontent link on the Current Destination today was snagged from one of the sources on trustszabo.com's Link Checker... apologies for not remembering. Anyhow, I believe the guy behind Kontent is Kenn Brown. Talented.

>> New B Team writer on the horizon. This short piece was written by Emmet Hart Jenkins of San Pedro, California.

>> While on the subject of writers, the infamous Tom Schmidt, better know to the world as Earl Parker, has been shopping a packet of short stories to publishers without any luck so far. The guy is good. If there are any publishers out there interested in reading Earl's words, write Bend and we'll forward you to the man himself.

>> Weird week.

>> Newcomer to Bend, Ned Mercury, has contributed pretty damn cool Diurnal Drawing today...

>> Porous Walker updates later today.

02/26/03

>> Another wall of meetings held me up yesterday (note to self: learn to climb walls). Good news is... FOB, Lori D., is back in the Diurnals.

>> Enigmatist, Mel Bend, has stuck his head out of hiding for a bit. First the come back of Lettus Bee on "The Big Stupid," and now, look for his two-page comic "A True Story My Dad Told Me Once" on Other People's Stories. Thanks go out to OPS brain, Devin Friedman.

02/24/03

>> Besieged by meetings again. See you tomorrow... but please check todays Diurnal and the Time Capsule link above. Thanks.

02/21/03

>> Mark Penxa gets the 200th Bend Diurnal Drawing. Check it here. Thanks, Mark and all the rest of you. I may have to post a seperate Porous Walker gallery, as he sent in nearly 20.

02/20/03

>> Tomorrow morning will mark the 200th Bend Diurnal Drawing. I haven't picked it yet. Send in your submissions... tuck a little Benjamin in there and you may just be the 200th!

>>A couple of public thank yous from Bend:

Thank you Hersk for the beautiful birdhouse which is now prominently displayed in our birdhouse collection (Yup, we actually have a collection).
Thank you Don Pendleton (of Elephont and Alien Workshop fame) for mentioning me in his Sidewalk interview (glossy UK skate mag).
Thank you Taka Kawachi (Relax Magazine in Tokyo) for featuring my work on the cover and inside of the current issue. So stoked.
Thank you Ian Verchere, my old friend at EA in Vancouver for the box of Camecube fodder.
• Thank you again to my buddies at
Universal for getting me back into MX. Now update that site!

02/19/03

>> Not an update on the identity of Mr. Walker:

This is not Porous, yet close...
Thanks
Porous Walker

02/18/03

>> Small explosion on my street last night. Someone is pissed at the guy with the crusty El Camino.

02/17/03

>> There once was a skter named Bernie McGinn from Lincoln, Nebraska. He was a good skater. He was smart. He could shoot great photos and did a really nice zine called TIKI as well as run his own lable, Caulfield and play in his band, Sideshow. Well, now he runs a site called Audio-Obsessive and sells hard to find CDs online. Forget the Amazonian-evil-empire, go to Audio-Obsessive and support this good man with your online music purchases.

02/14/03

>> Just got this from Jeremy Fish. He had about a day to put this episode of "The Big Stupid" together because Mel Bend is a slacker. Look for the two page spread in a soon to be released issue of Slap mag. Lettus Bee is back! And please catch the episode after this one -- it will feature the famous, PUSHEAD!

>> A Valentine from Steven at Slabco:

I flove you to, man.

>> So.... North Korea has weapons capable of reaching the shores of the US. Happy Valentine's Day. Become a member of the Korean Friendship Association! Irony upon irony...

>> Duct tape says, I Love You.

02/13/03

>> Watch Jeremy Fish's "The Big Stupid" in the next few issues of Slap Magazine. He's planning appearances by guest artists. Rumor has it Mel Bend is penning Lettus Bee again.

>> Speaking of Mr. Fish, the show he had last December with Jenkins and Mueller at Beams T in Tokyo now has a write up on the Beams T site. There are some decent pictures of the art work and some interestingly translated bios. The site is a little tough to figure in terms of navigation, but there are some nice graphics to be seen on the tees.

>> Eric Koston on MTV's Cribs last night. You read correctly, MTV'S CRIBS WITH ERIC KOSTON. There's a quick glimpse of a Jenkins "Ugly Beauty" painting in the background. Borrowed for the shoot? Will Koston purchase it for permanent display in his crib along side the Spike Jonze self-portrait? One can only hope.

>> Another "Ugly Beauty" painting has been spotted on the current cover of Japan's Relax Magazine. More on that later, but here's a little jpeg courtesy Stacks Leon.

>> Good show to check in SF : "An Uncertain Line." Tucker Nichols, a recent collaborator with Crownfarmer, is showing with another Bend favorite, Lee Walton at Spanganga (in the Mission District at 3376 19th St., between Mission and Capp). It opens 2/20 and goes until 3/21. I recently purchased "A Days Work" from Lee and am really excited by the drawings and everything else that he sent (which included "performances" on DVD). The guy is phenomenal.

02/12/03

>> Nothing. Work. Lots of rain.

02/11/03

>> Wow. This list makes the Bend Names look pitiful. Personally, I'm going with Wuba. Or maybe Umerabwyn. Qalewyr? Blame Luxuro Larson for the link -- how'd you stumble across this one, Tony? Or did you?

02/08/03

>> E-Note from Porous Walker this morning:

Andy,
No one in this photo is Porous Walker,

Thanks for posing the question, I will search and try to give you an answer on who Porous is sometime in the next 25 years.
Thanks, pretty please.
Porous Walker

>> The Blow Up is "quite happy to announce the launch of our newest issue, No.6"

02/07/03

>> Felix Gedhard sent this photo of a hybrid bike he found in Northern Sweden last week. "I was working on a commercial photoshooting in northern Sweden last week where it was used. It's mainly built for driving in winter-conditions (quite obvious, I guess). It only has one gear as your feet are busy working with those runners on the sides. The Swedish military built a couple hundred of those machines in the early '80s and since then they're carefully maintained by their respective riders. The guy who owns this one told me he broke his collarbone last year crashing on some icy tracks, but he loves it too much to quit."

>> FOB enigmatic, Porous Walker, claims he has bro'd down with Belizian futbol star, Eddie Vernon (below). Is this true? If so, who is Eddie Vernon and is he really a star? While we're at it, who is Porous Walker anyway?

02/06/03

>> FOB Oak Kelsey is selling a drinking chair. The man says, "I hope they throw alot of candy at this parade."

>> From FOB, Rob Abeyta : "This painter is blowing up. Inka Essenhigh. She's the new thing. She uses enamel 'one-shot' the same paint pinstripers use."

>> And here's more art for you... to remind us not to go feeling all high-and-mighty about being Americans. Seems we live in a bubble. Darin Bendall sent these direct from North Korea.

02/05/03

>> Tony Hawk Pro Skater 4 is evil. By 2am last night I created my "custom-skater" -- Lettus Bee (minus the hat). Hey EA, make the Lettus hat... you bastards.

>> Rushed this morning (wonder why?). Had to quickly wash out a travel mug. Drank half the coffee in it before I realized the odd taste was dishsoap. Thanks, EA.

02/04/03

>> Oops, missed a day didn't I?

>> This link was on Arkitip last week. Boogie's photos are indeed good.
