NOW 5/30/02

>> The current issue of Trace Magazine, "the Art Issue" included the likes of Andy Mueller (Ohio Girl/Gold), Michael Leon (Stacks) and Andy Jenkins (duh) lumped together as the Art Dump, Trace did a nice job on the 2-page article, but failed to acknowledge the other members of the group, whom I'd liike to give "mad" props to here and now... Tony Larson (Luxuro), Rob Abeyta Jr. (Supreme Mundane), Jeremy Carnahan, Rick Howard (Girl Skateboards), Megan Baltimore (Ruby) and the newly inducted, Bob Kronbauer (Crownfarmer).

>> By the way, congratulations to Andy Mueller and his lovely lady, Sprout, better known as, Jennifer Pitt... they are engaged as of last weekend. Thought we wouldn't find out, Mueller? All the best to you two!

>> Long weekend... be glad Bend doesn't run a bulletin board.

>> Tokion is throwing a release party tonight for their current art issue, controversially entitled, "The Disobedients." If you reside or will be in LA, come to Rudy's Barbershop at 4451 Sunset Blvd. 8-10pm. If the artists featured are truly Disobedient, you probably won't meet any of them there... but Tokion will probably hand out free issues and you can judge the list for yourself. Or, maybe you just need a haircut and a shave? For more info, check the Tokion website.

>> TNI's Little Engines #3 is now available for pre-order -- which means it'll be back from the press any day now. Issue's 1 and 2 were great, we're sure #3 will be no exception. Look for it to possibly be in the Bend Consumption Machine soon (unless TNI sells out quickly. Possible.).

>> Have you read that Bruce Mau manifesto yet?

>> Have you turned in Lemmy's hat yet?

>> Mike Daily has sent over 10 more issues of Spun #5. These things went really fast the last time we had them. Great pocket-sized book with writing by Lori D and others. Get them in the Buy Machine.

>> The curators of recent shows "Panorama" and "Dime Bag" Jordin Isip and Rodger Stevens. Now, curating sort of implies management and guidance -- culler of taste and aesthetic. But these two are highly talented in their own right and cannot be overlooked as amazing asrtists. You've probably seen Jordin's work, as he is a pretty visible and successful illustrator. Rodger's work, on the other hand, may be a little more obscure as he works in wire. He draws with wire. The stuff is incredible and must be seen to be believed. Check it at Open Sewer (that must be a play on Open City...). Anyhow, "mad props" to these two for their dedication and talent. Thanks.

Subject: Lemmy's hat

Forwarded from Overnight Sensation mailing list

Hello All!

Sorry for the unusual use of this forum, but we need your help with something.

On friday night (May 17), Motorhead played the Townsend Club in San Francisco. After the show, someone stole Lemmy's famous hat right out of his dressing room. This is the one with the big metal skull affixed to the front.

Lemmy is understandably upset about this loss and we want to get this item back ASAP.

If any OS member has any details on the whereabouts of the item, we would really like to get it back. If you know someone that has it, please have them send it to me at:

Ace Trump
5835A Uplander Way
Culver City, CA 90230
USA

No questions will be asked and you can send the package with no return address. We just want to get Lem's hat back for him.

Thanks for your time and effort.

Ace Trump

>> TOFER at Lather in LA on May 30that 8pm. 6712 Lexington Ave. 323/467/0392.

>> Michael Leon is part of a conceptual group show called Song Poems. "My contribution is two songs that were written with someone else's lyrics. The songs were then made into video and album covers by other people. Kind of exquisite corpse but not really. [The show] was in New York in December [2001], and then Houston. The LA exhibition is the final showing. There will be a night of performances at the Palace Theater (630 S. Broadway in downtown LA) on Friday, May 31st at 7pm. I'll will play one or two songs with Tim Koh and Paul Stec. The opening for the visual part of the show is at Rosamund Felsen Gallery
at
Bergamot Station (2525 Michigan Avenue, Santa Monica) on June 1st starting at 5pm." Bend recommends Leon's musical performance on May 31st...

>> Slacking. We're back.

>> Bend's 5"x7" #1 sold the first day to one, Don Pendleton -- you may have heard of him? We were stoked the piece found its way to the Elephont Man's humble abode. #1 also sold to Floridian skateboard history collector, Nick Halkias... unfortunately, the piece of art can only have one home. Bend returned Nick his cash money in hopes he might come back in the future to find another piece he can call his own. Thanks Don. Sorry Nick.

Bend 5"x7" #2 is still up for grabs. There will be more from the series available in the next few weeks.

>> Bend's only novelist, Mike Daily, has surfaced in Portland, Oregon ("I got a bulletin board with flowers on it," says Mike). He's writing, reading and creating a small avant garde lit zine called SPUN. Bend has a limited amount of Spun #5 available in the Consumption Center. Check it. The pocket-sized reader showcases art from Greg Higgins and writing from a Bend favorite, Lori Damiano. It also includes lots of hand-done bits by Daily himself... well worth the $4. Only 297 were printed and assembled. While you're in the store, take a look around -- there are still copies of Daily's groundbreaking novel, Valley, available...

>> In case you are searching the newsstands for The Disobedients issue of Tokion magazine, it looks like this. If any of you actually get your hands on it and check out the list of artists/creators, let us know what you think of Tokion's picks, culled by editor Adam Glickman and Alleged Gallery luminary, Aaron Rose. The issue itself is designed by former Fourstar designer, Kevin Lyons (congrats on your brand new little girl, Kevin!).

THEN 5/01/02

>> The new Tokion magazine is out. It outlines the "movement," and loosely labels it The Disobedients. No doubt you will recognize many of the names enclosed within.
