DESTINATION OF THE MOMENT >> Diana Sudyka
NOW 4/26/02
>> How strange is it to turn on the radio this morning and hear an NPR reporter doing a review of the Z Boys documentary? Here's the npr.org synopsis (which makes the writer's review seem worse than it actually was) :
"Los Angeles Times film critic Kenneth Turan reviews Dogtown and Z-boys. He says the documentary is visually stimulating, in spite of arrogant characters that border on annoying."
If you've seen the film, it's a little hard to argue with that. But you must see it... for the amazing 30 year-old film footage alone.
>> Have you checked out the Aesthetic Apparatus site yet? Watch for a Bend/AA project in the near future.
THEN 4/19/02
>> ON YESTERDAY'S COVER :
"Andy, I just did my Friday morning check up of bendpress and saw the desktop splash. I do have to say your desktop is a bit cleaner that mine, but the resemblance is stunning. Check it."
--Reagan Akersten, Graphic Designer, Shift
We were stunned... and tried double-clicking on Reagan's icons to no avail.
>> Arkitip IR had this link yesterday. Aesthetic Aparatus. Go there... beautifully designed, hand-pulled, limited edition posters (with great prices). And their site works excellently.
THEN 4/18/02
>> Neil Blender doing artwork for Ruby? Word on the street is, his paintings are going fast over at the Heated Wheel.
>> Did we aready mention that Pendleton has been updating Humdrum almost daily? He is.
THEN 4/15/02
>> 2K, the boutique t-shirt company from Japan that has lines by Warhol, Ryan McGiness, Michael Leon (Stacks), Evan Hecox, Geoff McFetridge, Paul Davis, Barry McGee and Margaret Kilgallen, to name a few, has recently added Andy Jenkins (of Bend) and Andy Mueller (The Quiet Life) to its roster. You can check out hundreds of original tee designs at the 2K site where there is also a listing of physical stores where you can get them.
Bend will have limited numbers of the four Jenkins designs up in the Consumption Machine soon. Here's an example...

THEN 4/11/02
>> Heard on NPR this morning : Jack "Dr. Death" Kavorkian is in "frail heath" at 73 years-old as he sits in a prison for the assisted suicide of numerous terminally ill patients. He is waiting on appeals to go through. Now, Kavorkian is a man on a life-long mission to show the world that it is okay to end someone's suffering if they concent to it. A thought : would he get sick enough in there, that he might decide to make the ultimate point?
>> A link that came through the emails this morning : Cozmic Authorized.
>> Galaxia recording artist and cult-status skateboarder, Ray Barbee, is playing Thursday, April 11th at Spaceland (Los Angeles) with Mice Parade -- that's TONIGHT. The show starts around 9:30pm. Check out the MP3 from "Triumphant Procession," his first release on Galaxia. Ray is one of the most positive people you will ever meet -- Bend wishes him all the best.

THEN 4/09/02
>> AT A GLANCE. The subject line "Incredible Cellulite Eraser" read :

THEN 4/08/02

>> Destroy Rockcity is still plodding away on its 100 drawings in 100 days concept. Great drawings, check it out -- they only have about a week left until completion.
>> They did SF, now its NYC's turn. The Panorama Project, 149 artists in one continuous piece (curated by Jordin Isip and Rodger Stevens), is having an opening reception at The Front Room on April 4th at 7pm (147 Roebling St. at Metropolitan Ave. in Williamsburg, Brooklyn / 718.782.2556).
The show runs for about 3 weeks and gallery hours are weekends 1-6pm. If you are from or around the NYC area, this is a pretty good chance to get a small piece (all are 5"x7") from your favorite artist for a decent price.
THEN 4/02/02
>> "Ideas Float Away," Michael Leon's solo show, which made its debut in Philadelphia earlier this year, will be in LA this weekend. The Brand new Four x Four Gallery will host. As usual, Michael's work isn't predictable, which always makes it refreshing. Highly recommended. Check "Flying Over California" out.
"Ideas Float Away" at Four x Four Gallery, 6324 Yucca Street, Hollywood. Opening reception is April 5th from 6 to 9pm.

"Here is Laurie's email, don't hesitate at all to contact her, she loves shooting new born babies and is always looking for new 'subjects' ..."
Huh?
THEN 4/01/02
>> "Bunt" a 3D piece from FOB, Andrew Pommier, is a work he has on view at Solo Exhibition ( one window, one artist, one artwork ) in Toronto. It's up until almost the end of April ( full moon to full moon ). See more of Andrew's work on the Madreal site -- click on Friends of Madreal. While you are there, check out Derrick Hodgson's work.

Super easy and clean submittal process. Send your shots in, then take some time to cruise the rest of the site too. Good links.
