5/29/07 A pretty good way of presenting the facts and figures. I would love to see these in person anyone in New York this summer can. "Running The Numbers; An American Self-Portrait" by Chris Jordan. 5/25/07 "A lot of times, I'll just stay up late at night and, ah, watch you sleep." This is classic. Thanks FF. 5/23/07 The boy, Willits, is starting to get noticed. ![]() 5/21/07 Sorry Dodgers. Not really. I love these freeway series games. 5/17/07 There's a good interview with former Art Dumper and one of my favorite painters, Rob Abeyta Jr. (Edith's brother), over at Hustler of Culture. 5/16/07 While the Art Dump were in Europe last week, they ran into a friend of ours, Edith Abeyta, in Amsterdam. She's over there making art. Hardcore Distribution, the Girl Distributors that made the We're OK, EurOK" shows happen, have also loaded up a pretty comprehensive site about the tour and show. This is what I want done with my remains when the time comes. Those will be handed out to all my friends to make art with, then a show will be hung in memoriam. With lots of beer from Edith's husband, Robert Tower. Hope that's cool with you, Bob. This is a really insightful website centering around the South Bay of LA County, a place I've called home for the last 23 years. The Aesthetic. A few more good links I've either stumbled across lately, or had forgotten about, or was reminded of; • Rick Myer's Footprints in the Snow. You must check out the very cool quarterly subscription Rick offers. • Rick Froberg (of Pitchfork, Drive Like Jehu and Hot Snakes). Besides making great music, the guy has always been able to wield a pen. • Dan Bob Thompson. • Cubby Blue. • Stranger magazine. • Mark Conahan's Anti Gravity Press. I can relate. 5/15/07 ![]() I thought this was a great shot of "OG baseball" at Rickwood Field by Kenny Smith. Check out some of the others, here. 5/4/07 WE'RE OK, EUROK begins... I posted some photos of the large format mono-printing process we're using for the "EurOK" shows over on the Art Dump Share The Air photo blog. I have my fingers crossed the prints will make it to the first show in time for Larson and EA to frame and hang... ![]() 5/3/07 Big Angels lose 1 to 3 to the KC Royals. Peck Park Angels beat the Peck Park Mets 12 to 1. 5/2/07 MTV Australia cut an intersticial with Tony Larson and myself when we were in Sydney for the Taking Turns show at Monster Children in January. You can see the 60 second cut (2.2 megs) here. ![]() Larson and Eric Anthony leave for Europe tomorrow to represent the Art Dump at two shows during the Girl/Chocolate "We're OK, EurOK" tour. They'll be setting up shows in Amsterdam and Paris... we're finishing the last of the work tonight. Of course. Big Angels play game 3 of a series against the Royals tonight. Little Angels play the Mets. Both start at 5:10pm. Results tomorrow. 4/30/07 OK, I'm all caught up on sleep after this weekend. 4/27/07 The Giant Robot "Ink & Plastic" show is down. Thanks again to all the people who took the time to check it out. I may put the remaining ink drawings (many of them the original ink drawings of The Skateboard Mag "Chirps") up on the Bend Store soon. Two Lettus Bee figures left. 4/25/07 How does a coach make an out in a baseball game? Well, I'll tell you. You coach first when your lead-off hitter cracks a grounder to the short stop. It's a real close play at the bag, but the first baseman drops it well, it actually goes flying past him. So you yell at your runner to GO, GO, GO, to second then slap him on the shoulder as he goes by... "HE'S OUT!" the ump, a huge, intimidating guy, will yell. "A base coach cannot touch the runner!" Oh... so that's how. Now I know. But the same runner went on the hit a triple, knocking a couple in, not too mention his outstanding defense of homeplate as our catcher. We even gave him the game ball. Peck Park Angels win, 6-2. El Diablo Run 2 is history. Check out the first set of photos on Flickr. A pretty wide variety of creatively customized steeds this time around. Fire extinguishers as gas tanks? Ingenious. ![]() Hats off to Super Vlad, Aybar and Willits for their late inning performances against the Tigers yesterday. 4/24/07 Back from jury duty, my civic responsibility as an American citizen. After two times in the waiting room for 7 hours +, I have yet to be picked to actually sit on a jury. But, honestly, I can't say the curiosity is killing me... I want to give a big thanks to Eric Nakamura and Martin Wong of Giant Robot empire. They were gracious enough to allow me to squeeze the Ink & Plastic show into GR2 in-between shows. It was a tough Saturday night to have an opening, as a lot of other things were happening, but I also want to thanks all the people who made the effort to come out. Thanks! The work is up and available until GR2 closes tomorrow night... I'm pretty happy with how it all looks. I have exactly 3 Lettus Bee vinyl figures left in the Bend Store and I've noticed a few of the other online shops have sold out of them. Get them while you still can. 4/20/07 Hanging the Ink & Plastic show at Giant Robot 2 tonight. I should have about 15 to 20 original ink pieces there... whatever doesn't fit on the walls, I'll have in the back of our van in the parking lot. Ha. Hope you all can join us tomorrow night. 4/18/07 Hang on St. Christopher. The EDR starts tomorrow morning. Oh Angels. Tha bats are sleeping. WAKE UP! 4/17/07 I won't be making the El Diablo Run this year, but a gas tank and fender I painted for McGoo's bike will. They're done, mounted and ready to roll into Baja. Here's a great quote from the guy who clear-coated the job after I finished and before McGoo mounted them: “Why do you want to protect these pieces of....?” Ha, ha. I love it! 4/16/07 ![]() 4/15/07 Back in Pedro after a three day trip to Catalina with 100 fifth-graders from Park Western Harbor Math and Science Magnet. Wow. Eye opening in many ways. Unfortunately, I left my Lumix battery plugged into the wall in my dining room and so, I came back with no pictures whatsoever. But, you know, I almost like it better this way... real memories. Also had opening day for the San Pedro Peck Park Little League. That's a lot of time around 10 year-olds. I did manage to get pics on this day. I'll post a couple tomorrow. This upcoming Saturday is my show, Ink & Plastic at GR2 in Los Angeles. I need to get in a little adult time. Come on out, we'll be having the official release for the Lettus Bee figure (though they're pretty close to being sold-out already) and showing a bunch of ink drawings, posters, etc. Should be fun. ![]() INK & PLASTIC The Line Work of Andy Jenkins @ GR2 / GIANT ROBOT SATURDAY, APRIL 21, 6:30 10pm 2062 Sawtelle Blvd., Los Angeles, CA 9002 4/9/07 Skateable sculptures. And I'm not too sure how they'll like it. Either way is fine with me, really. McGoo seemed to like it. I'll post more picks once he the pieces clear-coated and mounted 4/4/07 The old feud was awakened by Padilla of the Rangers last night. Just when almost everyone had forgotten about last years rumble at the mound, Padilla decided to throw Vladdy a high and in fast one. Not a good thing to do to the Big Daddy who took him deep to center in the 3rd. Best let sleeping dogs lie, Padilla. BTW, I'm diggin' the new alternate home jerseys. 4/3/07 The Art Dump was recently profiled in the top-knotch Spanish design and sub-culture magazine, Staf. You can look through most of the issue online here. Thanks for the nice piece, Juan Jose Moya! Next time I'm in Spain, the cerveza is on me. 4/2/07 It's Opening Day today. The Angels match up against the Texas Rangers at the Big A. Big John Lackey is throwing... ![]() I'm going to go out on a limb and say the Angels will win over 100 games this season. Go ahead bookmark me. LETTUS BEE The Lettus Bee Vinyl Figure is now in stock at the Bend Store. There are a very limited amount available direct through me as Upperplayground and other online boutiques will be selling the bulk of them (there were a total of 500 made).
