The bike was a present from his wife... it doesn't get much better than that. Campbell Milligan, folks;

The bike is the custom TW200 from Dues ex Machina, who reside just below the Monster Children office in Sydney. Looks fun as hell to ride. Cam?

I'm sending a couple of the new pieces below (9/20) along with the Stussy World Tour. I believe they're going to LA, NYC and Tokyo before returning the works. So that means they are still for sale, just tied up until January.

I just re-discovered this hand-made book Mike Cina made a few years back. It features a short piece I wrote called "Decision." I believe he still has a few copies left. Tool around in the You Work For Them store, there's loads of good material to be had.

9/27/06

Oh well. Guess I'll watch the Pads and Tigers for a while.

9/26/06

Listen to Keith Olbermann on MSNBC again. Link from CrooksandLiars.com.

9/26/06

Dear Seattle Mariners,
Thank you very much. And congratulations on breaking the losing streak. Now, if you could look even deeper into yourselves and take just one more from Oakland, you'll help the Angels put their destiny into their own hands... and I'm sure you'll be stocking up on karma points for '07.

Sincerely,

Andy Jenkins

9/25/06

Dear Seattle Mariners,
I'm sorry to hear about your elimination from the American League West. I really am. I like you guys. But please don't let the fact that you're out of pennant race deter your attention from the next three games with the Oakland A's. Despite your losing record against them, they can be beat — hell, the Angels just got 2 of 3. If you feel a sweep is impossible, I beg you, please get two. What will you get out of it, you say? It'll be fun! And you can use these wins as a trampoline for your spirits going into next season. Come on. I know you can do it... and you would make a lot of people south of you real happy. What do you say, Ichiro? Ibañez? Beltre? Sexson? And you in particular, Hargrove. Lead your men to victory. Get them all stoked and hitterish, you know the A's barely hit.

Just stay away from Frank Thomas.

Thank you in advance.
Sincerely,

Andy Jenkins

P.S. Here are the current MLB standings

9/20/06

Angels and A's both won again last night. The As magic number is 5.

A little cafe fever is going around. Lori D. sent me a cool set of photos she took at a recent vintage GP in Utah, and Kim Boyle now has a rolling Norton cafe project. Check it out...

I'm headed to a swap meet with the Biltwell boys this weekend — maybe I'll get inspired. Need to sell a few more paintings though. Speaking of which... I have four new ones:

(click on individual paintings for enlargements)

9/20/06

Is it a bad sign that the Angels organization is sending out bulk emails about spring training '07?

In a time in our culture of pap overflow, visual malaise, misguided media and roguish politics, this artist is truly relevant... Banksy. And, amazingly, he just gets better and better.

"I’m armed with liquor, all the right Elvis Costello records and deep rooted hate for what you do. I’ll write that in gasoline on your front lawn if you’d like." Right on, Penxa.

9/19/06

There's a short clip of three people I know and appreciate more than I can say, over on the Nichols/Charnoski site (they made the film). Go see it. Watt, Treece and Barbee making things together. Catch the entire short film on "Check 1,2" at Fuel TV (TV times here). I hope they record.

Look, I haven't given up on the Halos, but it was their off night last night, so I tuned into the Dodgers/Padres game on the tube. Then, in about the 7th, I went down to my kitchen studio with the intention of listening to the end of it while I painted. Well, am710, the "home of the Dodgers and Angels" was broadcasting football. Apparently, they are the "home of the Trojans" as well. Fack. Oh well. I put on a CD and went to work. I tuned into 710 again just before bed and heard the news from a hyper-excited news man; Dodgers had come back from a 4 run deficit by hitting back to back... to back... to back — that's FOUR — homers in the bottom of the 9th. Hasn't happened since '64, I think he said. Then Nomar cracks a 2 run walk-off in the bottom of the 10th to win it. Wow. I missed it. And everywhere I've gone in LA this morning, Vons, doctor's office, Starbucks, people were talking about it...

...meanwhile the As lost and the Angels prepare for the first of 2 game with the Royals in Kansas City today. Still 6 games behind with only 11 games left (6 with Oakland). Their work is cut out for them, that's for sure. Go Halos.

I'll be posting four or more paintings in the next few days, just need to get them shot. Somehow I got a burst of energy and made some things. Felt good. Still going.

My friends over in Sydney have uploaded their new site which includes a blog by Cam himself. Go see the new incarnation of the Monster Child.

Something absurdist and cool about this bit...

9/14/06

Kelley Hart has some pieces over at Mahar Drygoods. Check out the "Cowpoke Combo" — the fringed cords and appliqueed tee are both Kelley Hart items. I know a lot of you people out there are having kids... Mahar has some pretty neat stuff — and hopefully more KH in the future.

9/13/06

Here's something real important our administration is spending time on. Thank goodness they're doing something about this thing, humor. I always go back to what Steve Martin said many, many years ago, "Comedy is not pretty."

Of course, as far as I know, the Daily Mail may be the UK's version of the Onion...

9/12/06

Kudos to Keith Olbermann and MSNBC.

9/12/06

NoEra

And on a completely non-related note... Terry Gilliam and the Brothers Quay? Wow. The Piano Tuner of Earthquakes.

9/11/06

I thought it might be appropriate to look back today.

The 9/11 letters. (note; these letters were collected from Friends of Bend following 9/11.)

Hot War Links! (note; not too sure how many of these links still work, but they were all accumulated following 9/11.)

9/9/06

Tomorrow morning, bright and early, Emmet and I are headed out to be part of a historical day in motocross. Glen Helen Raceway north of San Bernadino is the place. 12 noon is the time of the first gate drop.

We're lucky, the final race of the AMA MX Nationals used to be in Pennsylvania for years and years. Now Glen Helen is it's home, and tomorrow we'll be there to witness the last official career race for the dominating Ricky Carmichael. He won the championship (his 15th AMA title) 5 motos back in Binghampton, but still... this is the last race. The farewell. On the toughest track in the country. I expect he'll win this one in grand fashion. As usual. Way to go, RC.

(Mini champ RIcky Carmichael. Racer X archives)

Ryan Clark will be there too. He's a hand full (well, maybe two handfuls) of points out of the top 10 for '06. Two Josh's are in front of him taking up spots — Demuth and Summey. One never knows in motocross (or life). Just pin it Clark, good things will happen.

9/4/06

Uprise skateshop in Chicago has a few of the leftover mono-prints from the Art Dump Mono-Poly show last month. Check it. There's a good chance of a pared down AD monoprint show happening in Sydney next January, thanks to Monster Children.

Happy birthday, Jeffy! You don't don't look a day older than... me.

(Laura & Jeff on his 40th. Photo Wilkins.)

9/1/06

Some news on the blue heron (8/30 post). Staci G tells me it's from the beautiful botanical gardens in Palos Verdes, just off Crenshaw blvd. He was slummin' it in Pedro...

Angels start a stint in Detroit tonight (you watching, Penxa?). This coud be the make or break series... I'm trying to stay positive, so I won't make any comments here.

Go Angels.

8/31/06

While on the subject of animals here in Pedro... this is my sister, Janice, with Violet (the Rosy Boa) and Em (the Human Child).

Mr. Bendall tells me the bird visitor (see below) is a heron (or "aosagi" in Japanese — Bendall lives in Japan). I can't recall ever seeing a heron in So Cal. Strange. Thanks, Darin.

Happy birthday Rickoo!!

8/30/06

This guy must've been lost. We walked onto the back porch Saturday and found him looking confused. He stuck around for a good 5 minutes before flying onto the neighbor's garage and then off to, ah... Torrance maybe.

8/28/06

Hmm, seems they didn't like my additions... maybe 10,000 Reasons Why Civilization is Doomed should be added to it's own list. Check out this quote from their "Rules, Disclaimers, Warnings, FYIs, Etc."

* We kindly ask for your support in maintaining a positive and engaging environment.

Then go read some of the list again. Come on, 10,000... add yourselves to the list, then, yeah, I'll find something better to do.

8/28/06

Doesn't matter if you don't watch or even like moto or supercross... this is still a nice short docu. James "Bubba" Stewart.

And on the opposite end of the spectrum; 10,000 Reasons Why Civilization is Doomed.

8/23/06

Seen this yet?

8/23/06

Dear PayPal Security,
You can take it easy on the emails. My own mother doesn't even email me 17 times a day. Seriously, you really shouldn't worry so much about me or my account. We're fine. I've taken all the measures I feel are necessary to protect myself and my account, sooo... really, I'm not worried so you shouldn't be either.
But thanks for caring so much!
Sincerely,
Andy Jenkins

8/22/06

Had one of those stupid mornings. Went to get the Trump out of the garage to get to work and realized the garage key was on my desk at work. Of course I didn't have a duplicate, what do you take me for?

This came attached to an email from my old friend Thomas Campbell this morning;

T.C. slashing the cul-de-sac quarter sometime around '86 or '87.

I need to get back to work. All of you waiting for something from me, just hold on a minute, I'm comin'...

(LA Times, August 21st, 2006)

He not only wins races, he decimates records and creates new ones that may never be beaten. This year he's already taken the title with 5 whole motos remaining in the series. Meaning, he could sit out for the next 5 if he chose to — he's already been crowned. But knowing Ricky (I don't, but I wish I did — maybe I could gleam some sort of winning essence off the man), he'll go out and win the rest of them as well. He's been pro for 10 years and won the outdoor MX championship all ten years (note: this doesn't even include his supercross titles), with 2 perfect seasons (winning ever single moto) thrown in there. Retiring on the tip top at 27 years of age. It'll sure be strange not seeing him on the gate at every race next year...

8/18/06

Megan and Misato have been updating Ruby Republic regularly. Check it out.

Friends of Bend, Bill and McGoo over at Revolution, SNFU, Universal and the el Diablo Run thought they weren't contributing enough to the world, so they started another cool new project... Builtwell Inc. Looking good guys.

8/17/06

ADDITIONAL PLANETS NOT A PROBLEM

Headline of an article in todays LA Times print edition.

8/17/06

Baseball is just too much like life in general. You're going along fine, catching up on things and BAM, you get thrown some chin music that knocks you on your ass. Or you catch a fast ball right to the ass cheek. Sometimes you just gotta get pissed...

See that guy all out of focus in the background? That's Ranger's 3rd baseman Mark DeRosa about to get in focus and nail Adam Kennedy into the ground with a full-on football tackle.

The trouble with real life is that there's no mound to rush.

8/16/06

My email program was spellchecking this morning and offered a new suggestion for my surname; JERKINS. That's how my day's going.

Turn this one up real loud and pretend. A unique way to see Paris. Fucking nuts.

8/15/06

Found this great photo of Ryan from the Millville national this past weekend... check out the Lakai sticker (thanks, Clarkstar!). The photo is by Jeff Kardas, one of the best MX photographers around. Check out his site, it's jam packed with killer images like this one.

(click for the entire image. Photo: Jeff Kardas)

While I'm on the Team Solitaire wagon, go check out Justin Buckelew's big holeshot from moto 1. He beat Bubba to the Racer-X line!

8/14/06

Have to mention an astonishing record that the Greatest Of All Time motocrosser, Ricky Carmichael, broke yesterday. In the muddy 2nd moto of the Millville AMA MX National, RC lapped the entire field. Meaning, he passed everyone, 39 other racers, by a lap — and many of them by 2.

Also worth mentioning is Friend of Bend, Ryan Clark's 7th place finish in the mudder. I believe this was his best national finish ever, am I right Ryan? Way to go! We're always wishing you and yours the best.

I need to send a big thank you out to my friend, Rip. He worked a deal between myself and his brother, owner of the W-Base Bike Garage in Japan... a 24" BMX cruiser for some t-shiort designs. Hell yes. The bike is sweet, thanks you guys. Apparently Rip's bro is a big-time old school BMX fan.

I dreamt that I was shaving my head and forgot to add the #2 attachment. Before I noticed I was mostly bald. I realized I have a smallish dome.

I like Stephen Gahan. If you can, try to catch his interview on the Henry Rollins Show. And, if you have time, check out the videos of Henry's musical guests... lots of great performances, from Jurassic 5 and Sleater-Kinney to Slayer.

Ridiculous... is it because 4 frames were not enough? Or are the Lomo folks working towards replicating a "fly's eye" camera?

8/10/06

30% off sale at Kelley Hart Creations this Saturday.

8/9/06

My Buddha Machine came. Wow... I'll be going through a lot of batteries.

8/7/06

Yesterdays demolition of the Pacific Trade Center building was a pretty physical gesture pointing to the so-called "rebirth" of San Pedro. I have mixed emotions. Expensive condos and lofts bring in yuppies who will inevitably change the face of this old port town. Or will they come at all? Maybe the bars, churches half-way houses, tattoo joints, choppers, bangers and carnecerias will cause hesitation...

Had dinner and some sitting around time with some old friends last night. Jeff Tremaine and Mark Lewman came down from LA to the Hood by the Harbor. We checked out the rubble on 5th street and ate at the Bistro on 6th. Note to self, see your old friends more often.

8/4/06

Finished another Chirp for The Skate Mag. The question was something to the effect of "Do your parents ever bum on your skating?"

Porous suggested I give the BMW driver (see the post from (8/3) "the new universal disappointment sign; The Thumbs Down while mouthing a lengthy Booooooooo..." But, unfortunately, the guy is lost somewhere in the Southbay, checking himself in the mirror.

Jonathan Glazer is an amazing visionaire who accomplishes some pretty massive scale, yet short "films." It just seems a shame that many of these short "films" are attached to consumer products. But then, what isn't these days? Large corporations sponsor art shows. Artists draw and paint on many a consumer product which are then sold in "limited" supplies. Maybe the idea of being a purist is over-rated? Talk amongst yourselves...

8/3/06

Merging onto the freeway today in our mini van, I looked and everything seemed clear. I was up to freeway speed, so I blinked and merged. Then an immediate and terrible honking jarred me to attention and a car swerved around to my left. It seemed to come from nowhere, traveling at a high rate of speed. As it passed me, the man inside's jaw was moving up and down, big middle finger erect, eyes full of hatred. I shrugged. What could I do? He then proceeded to pull his lowered, polished European sports car in on me rather quickly, so I hit the brakes and followed until the left lane was clear. He continued to gesture and swerve around. He was pissed. I shrugged again. Gave the OK symbol — index finger and thumb circle — to the back of his car. Then I blinked again and went into the now clear left lane. As I passed him, he threw a handful of change at my car, pelting the passenger window and door. His face was dark and angry, his spikey hair motionless. He wanted to murder me, I'm sure of it... but he immediately pulled off the freeway onto Sepulveda, leaving me to my own route. My first thought was, "what a coward," if he was for real, he would've waited for me to lose my temper, then proceeded to ram me, stop my car and drag me out onto the pavement for a beating... or maybe just explain to me that I should've pulled onto the shoulder for him, as he was in a big hurry to get to the gym — "I'm late for a lunch-time racket ball appointment, you fuck! Can't you see that?!"

I guess I didn't. I need to pull my head out of my ass.

7/31/06

Kelley's out of town and despite all the things I need to finish, I didn't do a single damn one of them this weekend. Emmet did his regular block-kids thing and I did laundry and dishes. Every so often I'd walk into my studio (kitchen) and look at the half-done paintings... then grab a beer out of the fridge and walk outside into the sun.

The Buddha Machine sounds fascinating. Just ordered one from Forced Exposure.

Cabrera, Vladdy, and Rivera knocked shots over the Green Monster against Curt Schilling yesterday. All in the 3rd.

RC actually got beat in Washington yesterday. The only person possible of doing it, did it — James Stewart. Too bad OLN won't televise it 'til next week.
