I love you. 5/16/05 Art Prostitute has posted a nice section on their site devoted to the Evan Hecox / Cody Hudson show, "Waiting Room" that opened in their physical gallery about a week back. Check it out, there is some really nice Hecox and Hudson original work for sale. Porous Walker is ganthering a shitload of wishes over at Fecal Face. Here's what he had to say to me after I sent him mine; "Andy, Your wishes are being processed and will arrive in 3 to 210 weeks. Things are running steady and true over there, keep your eye on them. 5/2/05 Porous Walker has posted my three wishes up at Fecalface.com (click on "dailies," then, "You Wish"). Now, if he could only make them come true... 4/22/05 Ten things I know next to nothing about. Caitlin Kuhwald's paintings are amazing. 4/18/05 First Leftwich, then Agents & Crailtap. Now us. It's over. I guess it was inevitable... 4/15/05 Here's a quote from David Choe's update email. Couldn't have said it better myself... but maybe it's just how I'm feeling this week. "Group shows are fucking horrible and a joke and have been played out for more than a minute. Can everyone just stop it? Nobody buys anything and did you really want to become an artist so that you can paint on a pair of speakers, or jeans, or shoes or trucker caps, or whatever the gimmicky fuck. Cut it out." Check out a "day in the life" of Choe over at the Wooster Collective. Lee Walton is a little miffed with Shaq 4/11/05 Over the weekend, I turned away a couple of guys in suits who came to my door. They gave me this flyer, which I didn't even look at until after they disappeared into lower Pedro. Hell, if I'd known we'd be able to cuddle panda's in their New World, I would've asked them in for coffee. The rest of my custom Girl Wooden OG dolls have sold off the AntiSocial site... that's the end of those for a little while. The next Art Dump shows will be in Vancouver (August) and Los Angeles (September). Thanks to everyone who's supported us. I have another painting headed to Australia. This one to "The Commons" show which will feature artworks based on the lengendary Aesop's Fables by a nice assortment of creative types. Check out the new Basefield site for details on the show which opens in late July. 4/8/05 Shows went pretty successfully last month. I'm happy, though sometimes I hate to see the paintings go... it's as though I need more time with them do a little cuddling or something... Mandala #1 sold at the Fifty24SF Writers Vs Ryders show. The reports I heard said the place was packed. Here are a couple photos Cab sent me. The Grey Rainbow show at AntiSocial is up for a few more days. They decided to try something new this time... sell online. If anyone is interested in buying a custom Girl Wooden OG, head on over to the AntiSocial site, there are a few left from the show. Six of mine are up there. A big thanks to Michelle and Rick for making this whole thing happen. Great group of people up there. The 7"x7" painting, "Dog," sold. I'll probably start working on more paintings this size soon. Almost forgot... Tony Larson interviewed me for his blog over at Skate Mental. He also did the portrait. Check his Agents of the Area for meandering art news. 3/30/05 The Writers Vs Ryders show at Fifty24SF (Upperplayground) in San Francisco is opening up tomorrow night. I'm pretty happy with the two new paintings I sent up; Mandala #1 and Mandala #2. They are based on interviews with Joseph Campbell and the concept of the soul being a circle. I made this piece of music to accompany them. Also got a box from Nike SB yesterday... samples of the new P-Rod Zoom Air, custom created specifically for the launch of Paul's new shoe. Only 3 sets were made; Nike has a pair, Paul has a pair and I have a pair. I'm pretty pleased with how they came out. Not sure if these will be seen anywhere else as I have no idea how Nike is planning to promote Paul's kicks. Pretty fun working on a shoe, though... ![]() 3/21/05 So apparently, Gibby Haynes (former frontman of the Butthole Surfers) showed up to the Move 13 show opening in NYC last Thursday. I can't imagine what that guy is like in person. Curator/painter, Rich Jacobs, was pretty stoked he also got to see a Slint reunion show the same weekend. I guess the Grey Rainbow opening at AntiSocial went very well. Hecox and Campbell both sold all of their OG dolls. The rest of us had to settle for one here and there. Nice to have those guys on board. Thanks a lot, Michelle and Megan, for making it all happen. Me? I was quite content to sit at home with my new cats. Lots of new paintings coming. 3/18/05 I contributed to the Solosuzuki "Faces" edition. Frontline is one of the gems of television. A true rarity. One of their current "investigations" delves into the minds of modern day marketers and advertisers... "You go to fill your gas tank and you look at the pump and you're seeing news headlines in advertising. You go into the bathroom and you look in the urinal and you're staring at an ad. You look up at the sky and there's skywriting." This clutter creates a dilemma for advertisers, ad writer Bob Garfield observes. "The advertisers know they need to have more and more advertising to get an ever narrower slice of your attention," he says. "And that means we are going to be ever more inundated. And then of course ever more resistant, requiring ever more advertising, making us ever more resistant and so on." Watch all six epsodes of The Persuaders online. I recall that the Minutemen once said, "Fuck adverting ... let the products sell themselves." It's raining here again. Steve dislocated his shoulder and Jared's grandmother died. Me? My meds are running out. 3/15/05 Upcoming shows; Grey Rainbow at AntiSocial in Vancouver. Opens Friday, March 18th. A Girl Art Dump Wooden Doll Show. Thanks. 2/22/05 Kevin Wilkins comissioned me to do this illustration for The Skate Mag a few months back... ![]() Kevin WIlkins sent me this picture of his friend's leg last week... ![]() Kevin Wilkins walked up to me in a record store in about 1988 or so and made me buy a record called "What Makes a Man Start Fires." It changed my life. I'll always be thankful for that. But it was just a few years too late to see the Minutemen live. Now the long awaited documentary, "We Jam Econo," is about to be released and it's premiering in the hometown of the legendary punk rockers, San Pedro, at the old and restored Warner Grand Theater. It's only fitting. See you there, Kevin. RETURN TO CURRENT "NEW NOW" All words/images ©2004 Bend Press and Andy Jenkins All Rights Reserved |
