B TEAM MEMBER : Megan Baltimore

Mr. Shay was using all his energy, mental and physical, to concentrate on standing back up from the tray. As he got into somewhat of an upward position, something fell out the leg of his pants. —excerpted from "Mr. Shay"

Megan probably doesn't remember this, but I met her when we were both teenagers. At a party thrown by her sister, Molly's, first husband, RL Osborn. I don't think I said a thing the entire party. Megan and Molly knew everyone there. RL played the song "Party Train" some time during the night.

A year or so later, Megan came to Wizard Publications where I was already working. She did random data imputing, mail sorting, packing for Club Homeboy and other menial tasks that she was obviously way beyond but had no problem doing. Eventually Spike (Jonze) or Lew (Mark Lewman) convinced her to write a piece on candy (her one vice) for Homeboy magazine and that was that.

Baltimore went on to work at World Industries, then to co-create the Girl Skateboard Company and become, basically, the matriarch of the Girl Family and the most well known woman in skateboarding -- though not by her efforts to be so, only her actions. She is a notoriously hard worker and has, over the course of years also written extensively about her family and personal neurosis. Hardly any of it read by anyone but herself. That will change. Her sword-sharp humor and self-introspection is hilarious and insightful -- a glimpse into our collective quirks. She is not scared to show it to you... I don't think. —Andy Jenkins
