Do It Yourself Glimpse.
Get in your car and insert a CD. Preferably one based in a minor key with a melancholic tone. (I chose Sonic Youth’s Free City Rhymes for this particular morning). Turn it up fairly loud. Drive past a school for the handicapped and get stuck behind a bus that is slowly pulling out of its driveway. Observe the young man sitting at the back window in a wheelchair. Notice his faraway look and the double hearing aides. But don’t notice the huge tractor-trailer combo that has pulled up beside you—not until its brakes hiss loudly, startling you and adding to the already eerie ambiance. Turn back to the boy’s profile in the bus window. See his fragile, bird-like head and realize in an instant that he will never hurt anyone in his entire life. Get goosepimples, pull over to the side of the road, write this down.

There. You’ve had your very own Glimpse.

The End.
